Pediatric dentistry is concerned with comprehensive preventive and therapeutic oral health care of children from birth through adolescence. An upcoming field of dentistry with immense potential, paediatric dentistry aims to eliminate fear at an early age with the inculcation of positive attitudes. Our expertise embraces the management of paediatric patients with appropriate behavior shaping techniques thus limiting the use of pharmacologic or sedation techniques.
Our aim as a department in Royal Dental College is to maintain a perfect blend of both the clinical and academic arenas of the field. Undergraduate students are given discussions on a wide rangeof topics with special attention placed on interactive case history discussions as well as first hand clinical experience under specialist supervision. They are also encouraged to participate in seminars and posters in order to open their eyes to the changing trends and to evoke a fresh interest in the subject. As interns they are trained to deal and expertly manage patients of various age groups with special emphasis on their clinical application of behavior management techniques.
Our latest venture includes the construction of an exemplary well maintained post graduate clinic. It will include a fully equipped conscious sedation unit with mobile self contained units ensuring safe delivery of nitrous oxide- oxygen mixtures. Those cases which require comprehensive care under general anaesthesia are managed in collaboration with Arafa hospital located in the proximity of the college. Our abundant inflow of patients will allow the post graduate students to get accustomed to the treatment and management of a variety of patients including those with special health care needs and medically compromised patients. They will also be introduced to the routine implementation of novel techniques and materials such as MTA, rotary endodontics, strip crowns, diagnostic techniques such as diagnodent, apex locaters, various splinting techniques, myofunctional appliances, dentofacialorthopaedicsto name a few.
Academic proficiency is stressed through journal clubs, case discussions, case presentations held on a weekly basis, participation and presentation of papers in conferences on a national level and publication of papers in international and national journals under the able guidance of our experienced faculty.
