Courses
ADMISSION PROCEDURE
(a) Candidates who have passed Higher Secondary examination of the Board of Higher Secondary Education of Kerala or equivalent thereof with at least 50% marks aggregate in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology are only eligible for admission to the BDS course. Furthermore, only those candidates who secure 50% marks in the NEET examination will be considered for admission into BDS course. Candidates belonging to the SC/ST/SEBC will be considered for admission to this course only if they have scored a minimum of 40% marks in the NEET Examination .
(b) candidates belonging to socially and educationally backward classes ie., SEBC (as per G.O.(P) No. 208/66/Edn dated 2.5.1996 and amendments thereof) with a total annual family income not exceeding Rs. 2.5 lakhs, will have a relaxation of 5% marks in the qualifying examination. They need only 45% marks in the case of Biology and 45% marks in the case of optional subjects put together. However, for admission to BDS courses, candidates belonging to SC/ST categories need 40% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology put together in the qualifying examination (as per the guidelines of Dental Council of India). The relaxation of marks in qualifying examination extended to SEBC candidates only will be applicable to OEC candidates even if they are allotted against the unavailed seats of SC/ST quota.
Age
Applicants should have completed 17 years of age on the 31st December of the year of admission to the course. No relaxation of the minimum age limit shall be made on any account.

Procedure of Selection
The selection for admission will be made from the merit list prepared on the basis of the marks in the All India NEET Examination.
Curriculum
The BDS course extends for a period of five academic years and is subdivided as follows:

First, Second, Third, Fourth & BDS courses are considered separately to pass and be promoted to the next year. Those who fail to secure 50% of marks in a particular subject will be declared as failed in that subject and they will have to appear for examinations in the subjects concerned subsequently. Failed candidates will have to undergo additional course of remedial teaching. As per the norms of the university, carry over may be granted. “Carry over” means, for example if a student passes two of the three subjects he/she will be promoted to the next year, but will have to clear the failed subject before appearing for the subsequent year’s final University exam. This will be applicable to students as per the pertinent rules.
Eligibility criteria for appearing the University Examination will be declared at the beginning of the course. The requirements to be completed are as follows:
- 80% of attendance in examination subjects separately for both theory and practical/clinicals. 70% attendance is required in non-examination subjects taught in the year.
- A candidate should secure 40% of marks in the Internal Assessment Examination (average of two/three internal assessment examinations will be taken)
- Completion of the work specified for the year. This includes practical and clinical assignments.
The Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS)degree program prepares students to begin professional dental practice immediately after graduation.
The undergraduate dental shall be a of four and a half years duration in addition to one year compulsory rotating internship.
The medium of Instruction and examinations of BDS course will be in English.
During the first year of study, emphasis is placed on the basic sciences, the biological foundation of the dental profession. Dental technique courses also are part of the curriculum,
The second year builds on the basic science courses. During this time, students will be learning restorative and preventive dental care for patients in a pre- clinic atmosphere
Third year is a year of clinical rotations from one specialty to another in all dental specialties. These in-depth studies occur in concentrated five-week periods. At the end of the third year of study, students will have developed skills in every area of dentistry.
During the fourth year of the program, these skills are integrated in the Dentistry Clinics. Management skills are emphasized as students practice in a simulated dental office setting, providing comprehensive dental care to patients. There also are many programs available outside the college, including a Satellite clinic and hospital attachment.
